Think Futures Careers

“Choose a career you love and you’ll never work a day in your life”

“Careers education is a strength of the school” OFSTED 2020

From day one, Mirfield College ‘Think Futures’ Careers team provides our students with a specialist careers support and guidance service. Our students access one to one support aligned to their personal career aspirations, attend professional work placements, industry leading topical talks and gain valuable employability skills. This gives our students a head start in readiness for their ideal job, apprenticeship or high education university courses.

How much support you choose to access is up to you, but we’re here when you need us. Whether you’ve made your decision about your career or still deciding, our ‘Think Futures’ team is here to help. You can book an appointment to see a Careers Adviser, come along to our regular drop-in sessions and learn from topical workshops and employer events.

Mirfield College employs two Careers Advisers to support students with Careers Advice and Guidance and ensure they make informed decisions regarding their higher education or career choices.

As well as expert advisors, we run a formal programme of inspiring careers events throughout the year where a range of specific support is given, which includes:

Spotlight Career Workshops

Spotlight events run throughout month all year round. Industry experts and past alumni who have in Mirfield, give students an insight into different industries and inspire their future aspirations.

 Face to Face Career Interviews

All students are offered opportunities to master their interview technique in readiness for work, apprenticeships or higher education.

 Apprenticeship Events

As Apprenticeships are becoming increasingly popular with both employers and employees, our students visit Universities offering Apprenticeship Fairs and have the opportunity to network with Apprenticeship providers in our annual Careers Conventions.

Higher Education Programme (HE+ Programme)

HE+ is a widening participation scheme run by Cambridge University. High ability students at Mirfield College are placed on the scheme and attend guest lectures and workshops delivered by specialists in subject areas run by Cambridge Professors to increase subject knowledge and skills. Students also attend live master classes on interview techniques, personal statement writing and university application support.

UCAS Events

All Mirfield College students can access University Trip/ Taster Events all over the UK.
