Entry Requirements
Grade 4 in GCSE Textiles or a relevant GCSE Art subject is an advantage. If students have not taken a GCSE Art/Textiles subject, then a portfolio of work will be considered.

Unit 1 – Visual Recording and Communication = 33%
Unit 2 – Critical and Contextual Studies in Art and Design = 25%
Unit 3 – The Creative Process = 25%
Unit 15 – Fashion Textile Materials, Techniques and Processes = 17%
NATIONAL DIPLOMA
Single award units above plus:
Unit 4 – Materials, Techniques and Processes in Art and Design = 25%
Unit 5 – Developing an Art and Design Portfolio = 25%
Unit 7- Developing and Realising Creative Intentions = 33%

Future Opportunities
This course is for those who would like to pursue a career in fashion and its related industries. Previous students have gone on to study a wide range of fashion, design and textiles related courses at degree level including fashion design, textile design, costume design, fashion marketing and business management, fashion for performance, fashion design and marketing, performance sportswear design. Students have then pursued careers in merchandising, interior design, marketing and fashion buying.

The UK Fashion Industry is worth £26 billion and 800,000 jobs to the economy, making it the UK’s largest creative industry. If you enjoyed studying Textiles or Art at GCSE level and are independent and self-motivated with a strong interest in the fashion world, then this is the course for you. Drawing ability is beneficial but not essential, as this will be developed throughout the duration of the course. You need to enjoy new experiences and challenges, whilst being willing to research and explore new ideas and working with a wide range of media and materials.
