A Level

The A Level Art and Design course is ideal for those with a creative career in mind and who want to study related degrees at university. Students will develop their skills and strengths in painting, drawing, print, textiles and sculpture. They will have the chance to discover and experiment with a wide range of media, study art history and contemporary artists. Students will also be able to make use of the Sixth Form Art Studio which is specifically dedicated to A Level Art and Design students and will be able to study in an environment conducive to study both during and outside timetabled lessons.

 

 

 

 

 

Course Outlines

Entry Requirements

Grade 5 in GCSE Art or Pass in BTEC Art.

 

Assessment

Component 1 = 60% • Component 2 = 40%

 

Course Units

The course will begin with a foundation style portfolio of work. Students will develop skills and techniques from a range of starting points. During this period students will cover the assessment objectives to make sure that they understand the rigours of the linear course. The year will also include a visit to a gallery or museum to see work first hand.

 

In the latter part of the year students will begin Component One using what they have learnt in the foundation period to drive their progress. Students will develop their own investigation and personal response into an area of art that interests them.

A passion for and interest in art is essential for success in this subject. Those students with a strong independent work ethos and dedication are the most suitable for this demanding but enjoyable course.
